A Day at the Beach... sort of...

ATTENTION... CAUTION... Chocolate, Salmon, Honey ALERT

Hullo again! We are at the beach! Or rather... at the low tide at the beach... We are all set up for boogie boarding in the shallows and having a marvelous time.

Except the tide keeps getting lower...

And our moat is draining quickly...

Hmmm... it's still a nice spot....

But some people wanted to go swimming... and not in two inches of water... nor having to hike two kilometres to get there... so we changed plans...

Along the way to a watery destination... we stopped at my favourite General Store - Goats on the Roof... I saw a few things that might interest my blogger pals. Ooops... I should probably put a warning alert at the start of this post!

I thought these chocolate bars might interest Droopy... This one is obviously Elvis...

And Charlie Chaplin...

Uhhh... Michael J. of course!

Mmm... no idea... anyone?

The Munsters? Zsa Zsa Gabor? Cruella Daville??? Hey... that's a cat!!! Must be related to that Katzenjammer ... err... Baron von Katzenheimer fellow that is holding dog biscuits hostage!

Oh... and of course this fellow must be related to Sullivan McPig... I wonder if that little mouse is related to Beanie Mouse?? Hey!! There's another cat!!!

Ooohhh.. wild smoked salmon... droool... slobber...

And fresh honey comb... ooohhh.... I am in heaven!

Camping Expedition

Oh hello! Yes, I have been beary busy of late... a little bear's work is never done it seems. We have had a tonne of visitors this summer - some human some stuffy and it takes a lot to coordinate all that. Last week... we had some beary special guests from out East (in our world... pretty much everywhere else in Canada is "out East"... hehheh). Anyhow... we decided to go camping! This is a good site...

Where we set up a couple of tents...

In addition to the VW camper van...

We had two young guests and... well... you did need a lot of stuff to keep two young humans occupied!

But we did get it more-or-less organized...

Enough to send the two humans down to the freezing cold river... That's Kara up to her stomach and Matthew deciding whether or not he's going to get more than his ankles wet! They are Mama's niece and nephew in-laws... from way out East (but not all the way).

As Senior (and Only) Bear in Charge - I made sure that everyone was fed and watered and had a place to sleep...

But that takes a lot of energy out of a little bear... whew...

I'm going to bed!

See you guys later... keep it down to a dull roar please!

Total Eclipse of the Bear

Well... did you see it??? Huh? Did you???
See what???...
The Eclipse of course!
We only had 89% of totality but... I made sure to order some special solar eclipse viewing filters a lonnng time ago. So I was ready!

This is a Bear Ear Eclipse of the Sun... heh heh!!

I've never seen a solar eclipse before! So I'm beary excited. Mama saw one in southern Mexico in 1991 and said it was beary cool... But that was a total eclipse and this is only 89%. If I had been thinking this through, I would have gone down to Oregon to visit Little Fox and view it from there!

Alright... the time approaches... I am ready!

Let the viewing begin!!

Oooh... ahhh... Mama didn't have special glasses, so she just stuck her cell phone up and made it take a picture but... that didn't work beary well..

Although in this one, you can see what looks like an upper right nibble getting taken out.

I... on the other hand, got a full, beautiful view!

Of this... oooohhh.... It did get quite a bit cooler and it was darker - but a weird kind of light... Very fascinating. Did you see the eclipse where you were?

Garden Status

Oh hello, Spooky and I are just admiring the garden from the deck.

It's looking pretty good...

Come on, let's go and check it out...

Bush beans are just getting started.

We tried Broad Beans this year... and they did OK...

But were real aphid attractors.

We've already been harvesting broccoli and... there are some side shoots coming now.

Garlic just got harvested...

And this is where the cabbage used to be...

We tried Summer Savoury this year... does anyone else use it?

Our potatoes are doing OK...

Our peas are almost done... so we are letting some go all the way to seed.

The Swiss Chard is growing like a weed.

Our carrots are doing OK too... and we planted some more.

Kale is still young.

Let's see... what else?

Oh yes... the raspberries!! They did really awesome this year! We had buckets and buckets...

But they are almost done and there are just a few stragglers.

Tomatoes are going well in the greenhouse...

And we have lots of cucumbers!

The basil is coming along...

We are trying eggplant this year but... so far there are lots of flowers and nothing else... sigh.

But there's a cucumber!

Oh, look... a bee!!! Jerry... follow it and let us know where the hive is!

Our Oriental Poppy smells soooo good... like freesias. Beautiful too!

We've also picked a bunch of lavender...

Of course, we have lots of sweetpeas...

That's the tour for today! Spooky says "Meow"!
